Lead Director – RCI Capital Group
The Honourable Stockwell Day is an accomplished Canadian political leader who served federally as a Member of Parliament between 1987 and 2011, and provincially as a member of the Alberta Legislative Assembly between 1986 and 2000. As a member of the federal Conservative Party of Canada, Mr. Day was the President of the Treasury Board of Canada for a two year period prior to his retirement from politics in 2011 to pursue corporate and business trade opportunities.
During his time in Ottawa, he held a number of senior portfolios including Minister of Public Safety, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, and the Regional Minister for British Columbia. At the provincial level, Mr. Day served for 14 years as a member of the Alberta legislature and was the Provincial Treasurer and Acting Premier for three years during 1997-2000. Mr. Day has established many long-term global relationships, particularly in China, Japan, South Korea and India. He currently serves on the boards of Telus, Eminata, Home Equity Bank, the Canada-India Business Council and the Canada-China Business Council.
John Park
Director, Founder and Chief Executive Officer – RCI Capital Group
Based in Vancouver, Mr. Park oversees corporate strategy, M&A advisory and investment banking, building important client relationships, and working with key partners. He draws on more than two decades of experience and a solid academic background to manage RCI’s growth.
Mr. Park co-founded RCI in 1996 and over the past 17 years has expanded the company beyond asset management into fund management, private equity and M&A advisory. He has led over $5 billion in cross border transactions since 2009 primarily in Canada’s energy and resource sectors. Along the way RCI has expanded operations into multiple Asia-Pacific countries, including the United States, South Korea, China, and India.
Before RCI, Mr. Park served as a research analyst and an investment advisor at two different investment dealers in Vancouver. He has a deep knowledge and understanding of the capital markets including corporate finance, capital formation and risk mitigation. He is a business graduate from the University of Calgary and the Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School in 2002.
Mr. Park is a socially conscious community leader, and was co-founder of the Canada Korea Foundation, which brings together civic and business leaders in an effort to enhance relationships between the two countries. He also holds a seat on the Aboriginal Opportunities Committee for the Vancouver Board of Trade and supports the goals of Free the Children which sponsors the well-being of small villages in developing countries including China and India.
Sylvain Payette
President & CEO – Renaissance Capital
Mr. Payette is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Accountant (CA), and has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Montreal-based securities broker Renaissance Capital Inc. since 2000, which is RCI Capital Group’s major operating arm and an Autorité des Marchers Financiers (AMF) regulated brokerage firm. In his executive role with the company, Sylvain has been instrumental in the success of the company as the Canadian market leader in the Immigrant Investor Program.
Prior to joining RCI, he was the Director of the Member Regulation Department of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada (now Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada) and also worked at KPMG.
Mr. Payette is a graduate of the Université du Québec a Montréal and attended the Advanced Management Program of Harvard Business School in 2003, thus enabling him to acquire the strategic insight and tools for RCI to stay ahead of its competitors.
